Receives NCCE Outstanding Technology Leader Award

April 3, 2017 – Portland, OR – Russ Hendrickson, Senior Information Systems Manager for the Missoula County Public Schools, was recently honored with the NCCE 2017 Outstanding Technology Leader of the Year Award. The NCCE 2017 Technology Leader award is provided by Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE), a national educational technology professional development organization and Troxell Communications. At the closing keynote session on Thursday, March 23, Russ was generously presented with a $500 check from Troxell Communications for his remarkable 23-year career as a teacher, coach, administrator, technology director and IS manager.

While attending the largest educational technology conference in Portland, Hendrickson was honored for his “Leadership as the first Regional Director for the Western Region of the Montana Education Technology Association (META). His peers have commented that Russ has provided significant leadership in bringing local tech directors together for collaboration, problem solving and sharing best practices.

NCCE CEO and Executive Director, Heidi Rogers, described Hendrickson as an inspiring role model and tech savvy entrepreneur. “I am impressed how much of an impact he has regionally and locally saving thousands of dollars by spearheading the Lightspeed consortium purchase for Western Region,” she said. Hendrickson recently completed 18 miles of a 21mile fiber project, connecting all of the 17 schools in the MCPS district with the state’s first district owned fiber network. “He exemplifies the goals of NCCE and represents an extremely worthy recipient of being named the Outstanding Technology Leader of the Year in the Northwest.” Rogers added.

The Criteria for the Technology Leader of the Year:

  • Current member of NCCE
  • Have influenced technology in education and have made a significant long-term contribution beyond his or her job description
  • Have collaborated beyond the institution, building, district, or region
  • Have participated in NCCE as a leader, presenter, or volunteer

Russ was nominated by Hatton Littman, MCPS Director of Technology and Communications, who said, “There is no harder-working more deserving recipient of Technology Leader of the Year award than Russ Hendrickson. Russ walked into a role as the President of META that required a lot of his time, attention and leadership and he brought us all together to provide better support to all of our Districts.” Littman also praised Hendrickson for improving a network infrastructure at MCPS that was 10-15 years out of date.” “Russ had some significant obstacles to overcome when he first arrived three years ago. Russ has been able to completely turn around the technology team at Missoula County Public Schools. They are methodically improving every bit of it – from the speeds we can send to user devices, to virtualizing the data center, to improving teamwork and customer support with our staff.”

Hendrickson joins a prestigious group of Technology Leaders in the Northwest, including IT Directors, Superintendents, ESD Technology Directors, and Principals. When asked about his award Russ Hendrickson commented, “I am fortunate to work for a Missoula County Public Schools. The school board and administration is very supportive of technology and truly strive for excellence.”
