Web 2.0 Tools that Support Highly Effective Instructional Strategies

You are familiar with various Web 2.0 tools and would like to use them with students. Now you need to structure activities that actually impact student learning. This workshop helps you move from how to use the tool to how to effective instructional design.

 

Prerequisites: Participants need to have basic Internet navigation skills.

Objectives: As a result of attending this 3-hour hands-on workshop, participants will: * Use a Web 2.0 tool to share past experience using Web 2.0 applications. * Review Marzano’s highly effective instructional strategies. * Explore a variety of Web 2.0 tools that can be used to support the instructional strategies. A partial list includes: Glogster, Slide, Stained Glass Collage, Google Docs, WordPress, PBWorks, Visual Ranking Tool. * Investigate ways to use these tools to support the instructional strategies.

Outline of Workshop: Welcome/Overview Common Ground activity: This hands-on activity encourages participants to get to know one another and identify common experiences as they discuss and share ways they have used Web 2.0 tools to date. Highly Effective Instructional Strategies: A brief overview of Marzano’s highly effective instructional strategies, including identification of the strategies that have the most impact. Links to resources provided. Tools that Support the Strategies: Hands-on time to explore tools that can be used to support those strategies that have the most impact. Examples are provided. Classroom Implementation: Time to discuss participants’ findings and thoughts about implementation. An online agenda will be provided for use during and after the conference. Participants will be able to access all materials referenced including supporting research, links to tools, and handouts.
