Kathie O’Brien has enjoyed careers as a community college instructor, grants administrator, and research assistant. She was successful in attaining substantial grants for the City of Missoula resulting in over $33 million in projects in a short three-year time frame. Kathie worked with a world renowned plant genetics program, helping administer international grant programing and was a community college instructor for many years throughout the northwest. Kathie was an early adopter of technology and was involved in distance education in its early stages. She was the lead instructor on a faculty team created to redesign courses at North Idaho College with the intention of increasing enrollment, enhancing student success and increasing retention. Another crucial element of the project was to address how to effectively reach students with an increasingly wide range of knowledge and abilities. In recognition of this effort, the program was awarded the Idaho Postsecondary Exemplary Program Award. Kathie received her Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Oregon State University, her Master’s in Business Education from Portland State University, and her Ed. Specialist degree in Adult Learning and Organizational Leadership from the University of Idaho. She has received numerous honors including induction into the Business Professionals of America Hall of Fame, Distinguished Service Awards from Business Professionals of America and Idaho Business Education Association, and various Faculty Achievement Awards.
