Professional Learning Specialist
Jeana Sistrunk
Jeana Sistrunk is the Media Specialist at Pinecrest Elementary and a lover of everything book related.
My passion for book and everything reading probably stems from my mother and I reading together when I was a child. It instilled in me a love for reading and as I grew older, I realized that a love for reading is really a gift. I want to give that gift to as many children I am blessed to reach.
I have had the pleasure of being the Media Specialist at Pinecrest Elementary for the past 15 years. In my position, I get to interact with students from PreK through fifth grades. I help them select books, work with students in small group, and support staff with resources and technology help. I enjoy the opportunity I am given to develop and teach lessons in information literacy and technology skills. I often collaborate with teachers to create lessons to enrich various content area standards.
I have developed several school wide programs that encourage and enrich reading. I have held many leadership roles, such as department chair and Area PLC facilitator. I am a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator.
Through the various roles I have held and experiences I have had I have become a confident and versatile educator. I am very confident with standards and developing lessons in elementary grade levels. I enjoy seamlessly incorporating technology into lessons.
Outside of the media center I enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time with my family. My children are grown but we still find time to hang out. I stay connected to youth, outside of school, by serving at my church in various capacities. Let’s not forget that I love to read. I’m fortunate to have a job that requires me to do what I love.
Stephen King says, “Books are uniquely portable magic.” I believe all children deserve a little magic in their lives.
