Jim Ekrut, M.M.Ed.
Jim Ekrut was born and reared in San Antonio, Texas, graduating from Harlandale High School. He then attended and graduated from Baylor University in Waco with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1973 and a Master of Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, 1978. Jim served First Baptist Church of Gonzales, Texas, 1976-1982 and Ridglea West Baptist Church in Fort Worth, 1982-2002.
Having earned an all-level music certificate at Baylor, Jim began teaching elementary music in Fort Worth ISD in 2003. He earned 4-8 Math, EC-4 Generalist, and Principal certifications, teaching elementary music for nine years and third grade math and science for one year before entering the district’s Educational Technology department.
Jim spent six years in Educational Technology, during which time he was annually responsible for training staffs of nine to twelve elementary and middle schools. Jim was a leader in the district’s use of Skype for multiple campuses’ simultaneous training sessions and a lead teacher for district online learning. He created and presented various content sessions individually, with small groups, campus staff, and for district, region, and statewide events. He is currently a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and a Google for Education Certified Trainer.
Jim and his wife, Tammy, have two grown daughters and two toddler grandchildren. Jim retired from FWISD in June, 2019 and is immediately available as trainer.
