Anna Shown, a 5th-grade teacher at Kapowsin Elementary in the Bethel School District, has been honored as the NCCE 2025 Outstanding Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Vrew, at the 54th NCCE 25 largest edtech event in Seattle, WA, on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This recognition celebrates exceptional qualifications, including influencing student performance using technology, working to improve the effectiveness of technology use, and providing professional learning to staff.
NCCE CEO Shannon Davenport shared that Shown was selected for this prestigious award after thoroughly evaluating a distinguished group of nominees. This honor is awarded to educators who:
• Influence staff and student performance by effectively integrating technology into education.
• Go beyond their job description to enhance the effectiveness of technology in the classroom.
• Seamlessly integrate technology into the curriculum, fostering deeper learning experiences.

A Passionate Leader in Educational Technology
Shown has exemplified these qualities through her dedication to providing students with innovative, engaging lessons and activities that leverage technology. In addition to her teaching role, she serves as an in-building tech support specialist, ensuring that her colleagues are equipped with the latest technology tools and best practices. Her efforts extend beyond the classroom as she helps organize and promote the district’s annual Tech & Art Fair, fostering a culture of creativity and digital literacy.
According to Tess Koning, Technology TOSA, “Anna is a true leader and innovator in educational technology.” She added, “A standout example of Shown’s impact is her work teaching students about artificial intelligence (AI) and how it can enhance creative thinking. Inspired by her lessons, she guided her students in crafting well-written, descriptive prompts to design AI-generated art. Her students, in turn, shared their knowledge with peers, parents, and staff at the Tech Fair, showcasing the power of AI in education.”
