The Northwestern Council for Computer Education (NCCE) convention is the largest educational technology conference in the Northwest. At this conference, you’ll learn directly from top ed tech experts and successful real-world practitioners in several in-depth workshops, sessions, and activities. Last year, the conference was held virtually. This year it will be live and in-person again for the first time since 2020!

If you’ve never attended NCCE before, or if you’ve never attended an in-person NCCE before, this “know before you go” is for you! Here is some information about the upcoming convention.

  • Get familiar with NCCE as an organization. Northwestern Council for Computer Education (NCCE) is a professional learning organization for over 4,000 educators and hosts the largest education technology conference in the Northwest. With a national membership base, NCCE provides resources and professional learning opportunities to educators year round. It’s not just a convention–NCCE specializes in bringing innovative training to people teaching the students and professionals of the future. Prior to my current role, I was an NCCE professional learning specialist and loved it; they provide innovative professional development and insights for educators, school leadership, and beyond. For more information about NCCE, be sure to check out their website. You can follow their hashtags on Twitter at #IAmNCCE, and #NCCE23 for the conference.
  • This year, the 52nd annual edtech  NCCE convention is in Tacoma, WA! The yearly NCCE convention this year will be at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center from March 21-23, 2023! The Tacoma Convention Center is in downtown Tacoma and is also within walking distance of many local venues and activities, and it’s within close driving or ride-sharing distance to the newly renovated Ruston Waterfront. After the convention ends each day, there will also be activities that are in and around the convention center. For information about the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and what is around it, their website has excellent information and resources.
  • Check out the NCCE 2023 convention website before you arrive. NCCE does a fantastic job of highlighting speakers, resources, and events on their website. NCCE is a conference with attendees that have roles that range from IT specialists, educators, instructional coaches, school leadership, and more–you’re bound to find something that catches your eye! There are many sessions and activities for you to participate in. Previewing which sessions and activities you’d like to attend may also help you plan your conference schedule better. You can preview the sessions by going on the NCCE 2023 Convention website. From there, you can filter by speaker, content, and more.
  • Get to know the featured speakers and keynote speakers. I’m honored to be a featured speaker this year at NCCE alongside awesome folks like The Merrills, Greg Bagby, Georgina Dean, and Jennifer LaGgarde. Featured speakers offer “must attend” sessions and activities. The keynote speakers also offer innovative, dynamic sessions. As a featured speaker this year at NCCE, my seven sessions focus on equity, collaboration, mathematics, instructional coaching, STEM education, and using data to drive positive school solutions.
  • While you’re there, post about it! One of the great things about conferences and conventions is that there are many folks sharing what they’re doing, what they’re learning, and who they’ve met! If you’re on social media, use the hashtags #NCCE, #IamNCCE, and #NCCE23 to stay connected.
  • Last but not least, stay connected with NCCE after the convention. Once you attend NCCE, don’t be a stranger! They’ve got a robust network of folks who are active on their LinkedIn and Twitter pages. Continue to use search the #NCCE hashtag and stay connected with them via their website to check out neat training and professional development opportunities, and ways to stay engaged.
