Rachel Peters, Library Information Specialist at Hutton Elementary in Spokane Public Schools, was honored as the first NCCE 2025 Outstanding Teacher Librarian of the Year at the 54th ed-tech conference in Seattle on February 26, 2025.
NCCE CEO Shannon Davenport shared that Peters was selected for this prestigious award after thoroughly evaluating an outstanding group of nominees. This honor is awarded to teacher librarians who:
• Influence staff and student performance through the innovative use of computers and related technologies in the library.
• Go above and beyond their job description to enhance the effectiveness of technology integration.
• Seamlessly integrate technology into the library experience beyond traditional expectations.
• Expand their professional expertise through workshops, seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
• Actively participate in and contribute to NCCE as a leader, presenter, or volunteer.
A Leader in Library Innovation
Peters has exemplified these qualities through her dedication to advancing technology knowledge and skills among staff and students. From teaching coding, Tinkercad, Book Creator, and 3D printing to implementing digital literacy programs, Lego Robotics, and makerspace activities, she ensures every student has the tools they need to succeed in an ever-evolving digital world. Additionally, she conducts professional development sessions for staff, empowering them to integrate technology effectively into their instruction.
